Safari Overview

The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience second to none. At nearly 2 million hectares, it is the largest game reserve in South Africa, stretching 350km along the Mozambican border and is, on average, 60km wide. It is unrivalled in its diversity of species and is a recognized leader in environmental management techniques and policies.  Kruger is one of the premier game-watching destinations in the world. 

Approximately 145 mammal species occur in the park. It is possible to see all the classical African big game, including elephant, black and white rhino, hippopotamus, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, warthog and many antelope species. Large carnivores include lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and spotted hyena.

What to expect

Experience the Kruger National Park and South Africa’s Mpumalanga Province in 3 days!  Starting in Johannesburg, journey to Kruger before checking into your Hotel in the Holiday township of Hazyview from where you will be collected for all Safari activities into the world-famous Kruger National Park in the company of a qualified professional “Ranger” guide!

Explore the best areas of the Kruger National Park with expert guides.  This Safari Tour offers a jam-packed 3-day tour that will leave you wanting more.  Return shuttle bus transfers to and from the O.R. Tambo International Airport are included.  

Private road transfers can be arranged for guests who might not be able to be at the departure point at the scheduled departure time and/or families travelling with children under the age of 8 (price on request).  Clients need to be at the O.R. Tambo International Airport bus terminal at 06h30 am. Collection from accommodation establishments within a 5km radius of the Airport are available on request.

The return journey to Johannesburg departs from Hazyview town between 10h00 and 11h00 am to arrive back at the OR Tambo International Airport bus and coach terminal between 17h00 and 18h00.  A maximum of 30kg baggage per person plus 5kg hand luggage is allowed, preferably only one bag.  NB: Please don’t be late as the shuttles run on strict schedules.

Day 1  

Transfer from JHB to Umbhaba Lodge, Hazyview, Sunset/Night Safari.  (Light lunch  & Dinner included)

Tour departs from OR Tambo International Airport and surrounds between 06h30 and 07h00 am.   

Check in at Umbhaba Lodge (or similar) in the small farming town and holiday township of Hazyview situated along the banks of the Sabie River where a light lunch will be served upon arrival.  Late afternoon departure for a sunset / night safari and first opportunity to encounter some members of the Big 5! 

Freshen up and relax before dinner (drinks for own account).  An early night is advised as the Safari will depart very early morning the next day.

Day 2

Full-day Open Vehicle Safari in the Kruger National Park.  (Breakfast & Dinner included)

An early morning start before the sun rises.  Enjoy a complimentary cup of tea/coffee and a light snack in the Lounge adjacent to the reception area where your guide will come and collect you for your Full day Safari Tour.  The guides are in the Park daily and have an idea of the best places to find wildlife at different times of the year.  The guide will choose a route suitable for the time of the year.  

The Hotel will provide packed breakfasts for you to collect from reception before you embark on an exciting day in the Kruger Park, breakfast will be enjoyed at a Rest Camp or picnic spot chosen by the guide on the day.  

All of the picnic spots and Rest Camps offer clean ablution facilities and cafeterias/restaurants where hot beverages are available for purchase.  Credit Cards are widely accepted as a method of payment.

After the breakfast stop, the guide will continue with the Safari to search for those animals that still elude you, another stop will be made inside the Kruger National Park for lunch (for own account).  

After lunch the last few hours will be spent trying to see what other animals can be found before returning to the Hotel to relax and unwind before dinner.  After a long but great day in the Kruger National Park you will return to the Hotel at about 16h00 pm.

Day 3  

Blyde River Canyon (Panorama Route Tour) Full Day Tour

Enjoy breakfast at the Lodge before departure to enjoy the breathtakingly beautiful scenic Panorama Route exploring the Northern Drakensberg Mountain ranges.  Highlights will include the worlds’ 3rd largest canyon, namely the Blyde River Canyon; Bourke’s Luck Potholes; Lisbon waterfall as well as the scenic God’s window viewpoint. 

A lunch stop (own account) will be made in a little town called Graskop, famous for the array of African curio shops.  After a stroll through the streets of town the Tour will return to Umbhaba Lodge (or similar) late afternoon.  Freshen up and relax before dinner (drinks for own account).  An early night is advised as the Safari will depart very early morning the next day.

Day 4 

Half-day Open Vehicle Safari in the Kruger National Park.  (Breakfast included)

Early morning check out and departure from the Hotel today for your last Safari leaving your luggage at reception and entering the Park as the sun rises.  A packed breakfast from the Hotel will again be provided and enjoyed after the initial 3 hour Safari.  

After breakfast a last game drive will last until around 11h00 at which time the guide will depart the Park to ensure guests are in Hazyview in time for the shuttle back towards Johannesburg.

  • Subject to availability at the time of booking

  • Families travelling with children under the age of 8 years old will need to book a private vehicle and guide for this Safari Tour, please contact us for rates and availability.  No children under the age of 8 permissible on Shared Safaris.
  • A 25% non refundable deposit required to secure a booking, the balance is payable no later than 30 days prior to arrival, bookings made less than 30 days before departure will be required to pay full amount at time of booking

Cancellation policy

Please note that the deposit is non-refundable.  Cancellation 30 days prior to arrival date and/or commencement of Safari/Tour/Activity - deposit plus 25% of total bill;  14 to 29 days - deposit plus 50% of total bill;  0 to 13 days - 100% of total bill.

Guests will travel from O R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to Hazyview town by shuttle bus to join this tour - collection at the shuttle bus arrival point as well as accommodation establishments within a 5km radius of the Airport on the day of the Safari will be FREE OF CHARGE (between 06h00 and 07h00).

The Chacma Baboons of the Kruger National Park

Chacma baboons are numerous in the Kruger National Park and live in huge troops numbering up to 200 animals (typically between 30-40).  Troops consist of a family group of males, females and their young.  Young baboons depend on their mothers for transportation, initially the little “pink foots” cling to the underside of the mother.  At around 3 months of age they start riding “jockey style” on mommy’s back (leaning against the tail for support) as seen in this footage...

The African Giraffe

There are approximately 10000 Giraffes in the Kruger National Park.  They are gregarious and live in nonterritorial loose groups of up to 20 at a time, a behaviour that apparently allows for increased vigilance against predators. They have excellent eyesight, and when one giraffe notices approaching danger it will keep staring until the others look in that direction too.  Giraffes live up to 26 years in the wild and slightly longer in captivity.
