Kruger Park Safari Overview:
The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience second to none. At nearly 2 million hectares, it is the largest game reserve in South Africa, stretching 350km along the Mozambican border and is, on average, 60km wide. It is unrivalled in its diversity of species and is a recognized leader in environmental management techniques and policies.
Kruger is one of the premier game-watching destinations in the world. Approximately 145 mammal species occur in the park. It is possible to see all the classical African big game, including elephant, black and white rhino, hippopotamus, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, warthog and many antelope species.
Large carnivores include lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and spotted hyena.
What to expect on your Kruger Safari:
A 3 Day / 2 Night Kruger Safari into the world famous Kruger National Park awaits! Anything to do with the word “game” whilst on a safari; like game drives or looking for game, all refers to wild animals in safari context. The guides will not only attempt to find the elusive "Big 5", but will also continuously point out interesting things throughout the Safari and share their knowledge.
Day 1:
You will be collected from your hotel around 10h00 from where you will travel to the nearest Kruger entrance gate where your guide will pay the Kruger Daily Conservation Fees (included) and obtain the required vehicle entry permit.
Your guide will make a comfort stop around midday at picnic spot or rest camp inside the Park where you will be able to get a bite to eat, lunch is for own account and the guide will break for about 1 hour before continuing. Late afternoon you will check into the Kruger rest camp where you will be spending the night.
Some time will be allowed for you to browse through the very well stocked curio shops which can be found at all Kruger public rest camps (camp shops close 1 hour after gate closing times) and to freshen up before meeting for dinner in the restaurant. Dinner (main course only, drinks own account) is included. Fall asleep listening to the sounds of the African Bush…you might even hear a lion roar!!!
Day 2:
Early morning wake up call followed by pre-Safari coffee/tea and rusks (a traditional South African hard biscuit eaten by dunking into a hot drink to soften) and departure. The entire day has been set aside for game viewing traversing through a wide variety of habitats and eco zones in order to find and photograph as many species as possible.
Stops will be made during the course of the day for breakfast (included) and lunch (own account) before returning to camp late afternoon. You might want to go and find a quiet spot to watch the sunset or take a walk around camp. All of Krugers’ rest camps are home to an array of small creatures and abundant birdlife!!! Meet for dinner in the restaurant.
Day 3:
Early morning wake up call followed by pre-Safari coffee/tea and rusks; check out and departure. The focus today will be on to search for those animals that still elude you from the days before. Chacma baboons are numerous in the Kruger National Park and live in huge troops numbering up to 200 animals (typically between 30-40). Troops consist of a family group of males, females and their young. Young baboons depend on their mothers for transportation, initially the little “pink foots” cling to the underside of the mother. At around 3 months of age they start riding “jockey style” on mommy’s back (leaning against the tail for support) as seen in this footage...
There are approximately 10000 Giraffes in the Kruger National Park. They are gregarious and live in nonterritorial loose groups of up to 20 at a time, a behaviour that apparently allows for increased vigilance against predators. They have excellent eyesight, and when one giraffe notices approaching danger it will keep staring until the others look in that direction too. Giraffes live up to 26 years in the wild and slightly longer in captivity.
