Heritage Day - 24 September

Heritage Day is a day where South Africans celebrate the cultures and the diversity of their beliefs and traditions and where we show respect and have pride in the different cultures and this makes up the population of South Africa. With 11 official languages and a population of 56 million SA is truly a unique country. The one thing SA citizens have in common through there love for meat and that is why Heritage Day is also known as National Braai Day (BBQ) day. It is a tradition for SA’s rainbow nation to come together and celebrate our traditions, cultures, our heritage with friends and family over an open fire and meat on the coals.

The 24th of September was originally a Zulu holiday celebrated in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. It was a remembrance to Shaka, the great chief who united the Zulu tribes into a unified nation. Until this day his name is spoken with the respect it deserves. It is heroes like King Shaka and Nelson Mandela that makes SA a unique country. We re a country of traditions and cultures and a sense of humor. This year’s Heritage Day will be extra special as the whole country will supporting our boys in Green and Gol. Our National rugby team is in Japan participating in the Rugby World Cup. When it comes to celebrating culture then our countries love for rugby.
